Teach a class with these lessons

The lessons and practice files are free to use in a class, in person or on a video call. Each lesson has written steps and its own download, and nothing needs an embroidery machine.

A class in 4 lessons

Allow about 49 minutes of hands-on time, plus a welcome and questions. For an all-free class, teach the first lesson and the inspection half of the export lesson.

  1. Open and organize PES and DST designs on a Mac

    About 10 minutes. Practice adding a folder, finding a design and reading its stitch preview with four original sample files.

    Tools: Free.

  2. Add a name and prepare an embroidery export

    About 12 minutes. Change Emma to Ava in an editable lettering project, save a copy and compare a PES export with the original.

    Tools: Studio or valid evaluation; export allowance applies.

  3. Turn a simple SVG into editable embroidery

    About 15 minutes. Import an original two-path leaf, review fill and run mappings, then save editable embroidery and inspect an export.

    Tools: Digitizer or valid evaluation; export allowance applies.

  4. Read export warnings and correct small lettering

    About 12 minutes. Compare deliberately small lettering with a corrected project, and distinguish design checks from format and hoop compatibility.

What learners need

To follow the Satinsmith steps: an Apple silicon Mac with macOS 14 or later and Satinsmith, which is free to download. Learners on Windows can open the PES and DST practice files in compatible embroidery software and follow the explanations, but not the Satinsmith steps; there is no Windows version. The .ssdesign projects open only in Satinsmith.

Lessons that use paid tools work with a paid plan or an evaluation. Anyone can get a free evaluation key by email to try the paid tools; the email states its end date. Check that it covers the tools your class uses before the day. For access for a whole class, email support@tempore.net with the class size and date.

Before the class

  • Open each lesson and download its pack; the page shows the file list and a checksum.
  • Run the lessons once in the same Satinsmith version as your learners. The lessons name the version they were written for.
  • Send learners the first lesson link a few days ahead, so the practice files are ready.
  • Tell learners that Satinsmith's developer wrote the lessons, and mention anything you received from us.

What the lessons can show

Every picture is a software preview in Satinsmith. A preview helps learners understand a file; it does not show how thread will sew on fabric.
